Having rating curves that accurately convert recorded water level data to flow is critical to all aspects of flood hazard management work at Environment Canterbury. We want to explore a modelling approach to defining rating curves for flows higher than we have gauged, and are open to innovative solutions that improve upon our traditional approach of rating curve extrapolation. We need models to be developed for 3 of our water level recorder sites and calibrated to recent high flow gaugings. Flows that produce maximum possible water levels need to be run through each model to establish a high stage/flow relationship for each site.
