The youth justice service is currently undergoing development work to improve services to children, families and victims in anticipation of a forthcoming inspection by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Probation. HMIP have introduced a new inspection framework which has introduced significant changes to the criteria and standards by which HMIP judge the quality of work to keep children and the community safe. Following some audit of case work with children, families and victims the service now need to carry out deeper audits alongside practice change and specialist training to ensure the workforce is appropriately trained and equipped to ensure safety planning for children and victims of children is robust and in adherence with the new national standards (including the Victims Code of Practice). The service need to commission is a highly specialist Youth Justice consultancy/training provider who can provide bespoke knowledge of the HMIP framework and training tailored to the areas for improvement highlighted in our audit at pace. This will provide the Youth Justice Service with specialist improvement capacity at pace to support inspection readiness and sustainable service improvement. It will help strengthen frontline practice, management oversight, quality assurance and governance arrangements, with a clear focus on improving the quality and consistency of work undertaken with children, young people and victims. This support is intended to improve confidence in the service's ability to evidence effective practice, respond to challenge, and demonstrate continuous improvement against the expectations of HM Inspectorate of Probation.
