Regular sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing is essential for looking after the health of young people, who are significantly affected by STIs. Chlamydia is the most common STI in England, with 15-24 year olds accounting for 63% of chlamydia diagnoses in the UK. The National Chlamydia Screening Programme (NSCP) evidences a need for increased chlamydia surveillance for those most at risk and provides an evidence base for routine testing of all sexually active under-25s. In the Framework for Sexual Health Improvement in England (which corresponds to the NCSP) improving chlamydia diagnosis amongst 15-24 year olds as a key outcome for local authorities to prioritise. The contract is for an initial period of 36 months with an option to extend for 12 further months.
